This short course will help the participants learn about the sources, hazards, properties, and characteristics of hydrogen sulfide (H2S) and sulfur dioxide (SO2), as well as the appropriate utilization of detection equipment such as personal or portable gas monitors, which are crucial aspects to be considered. Additionally, it is important for participants to be able to identify and respond promptly to alarms, know the designated muster points, be aware of the symptoms of exposure and the resulting biological effects, and possess the necessary knowledge of rescue techniques and first aid procedures. Furthermore, the proper storage, use, and maintenance of respirators must be adhered to, while also understanding their limitations and capabilities. Practical skills such as donning, conducting operational checks, and doffing of respirators should be acquired. Recognizing and responding to respirator malfunction and emergency situations is of utmost importance, as is being able to identify medical signs that may prevent or restrict the user from wearing a respirator.
